Today’s devotional:
“Thou hast been faithful in a very little.” (Luke 19:17) We sometimes think that it is the big events in our life that have most to do with our character. Typical days, monotonous hours, plain old toils, and every day events tell the real story. The workshop of character is everyday life. The uneventful and the mundane hour is where the battle is won or lost. Brother Lawrence was an uneducated layman in the 1600s who joined a monastery in France. He had a limited education and worked in the kitchen and later repaired sandals. He was known for experiencing profound spiritual peace. Many sought him out for spiritual guidance. After his death, a short book was created from some of his letters of advice to those seeking help from him. It became a Christian classic: “The Practice of the Presence of God.” Brother Lawrence had turned the mundane into spiritual peace. Regardless of the day that lies before you, uneventful or stressful, know that you are not alone. Seek to live each moment “practicing the presence of God.” When we can focus on who He is and what He has done for us, the mundane will become glorious, and be prepared to assist others because people will eventually seek you out. Be prepared.
