The Secret of Contentment

The Secret of Contentment

Scripture:
“Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.” — Philippians 4:11

Personal Reflection:
Jeremiah Burroughs taught that contentment is not natural but learned. It is the quiet submission of the heart to God’s will. I often crave comfort or control, believing peace will come when circumstances change. Yet Paul and Burroughs both remind me: contentment is not found by changing my situation, but by changing my heart.

Contemplation:
Am I seeking contentment through possessions and people, or through communion with God?

Prayer:
Lord, teach me the rare art of contentment. Let me find rest in You, not in outward things.

Challenge:
Each time you feel discontent today, pause and say: “Christ is enough.” Let that truth settle your heart.
