Today we look at God as Jehovah-Shammah: "The Lord is present." Ezekiel 48:35 says: "It was round about eighteen thousand measures: and the name of the city from that day shall be, The LORD is there." Ezekiel is describing the glories of the restoration when all shall be made right. He discusses the New Temple, the new trustees and the new territory. In that new land, God will be present. The Lord's presence will make living a wonderful experience.
Thomas Scott explains where this land is: "The land here divided is never called Canaan, nor the city measured Jerusalem; probably because they were merely figurative of the spiritual blessings to the church. But JEHOVAH-shammah, or, the LORD is there, is the name given to this holy city; signifying that his powerful and gracious presence with his church is the source of all her peace, security, felicity, and holiness, and that at length these blessings will be abundantly communicated, and his presence and glory signally displayed among his people." The land is now with the true church, the body of Christ. You see, God is present with you when you have become part of the body of Christ, i.e. become born again as a disciple of Jesus Christ. This is not an empty prayer; it is a life lived in obedience to Jesus Christ. It is walking as He walked; it is talking and living as He talked and lived.
Today, know that if you are in the body of Jesus Christ by becoming a disciple, you have His presence with you. This is a reason to rejoice and be glad. Thank Him today for His presence and know this: if He is on the scene everything is going to be just fine!
