Salvation Is Deliverance

Salvation Is Deliverance

Scripture: Colossians 1:13 (KJV)

“Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son.”

Personal Reflection

Salvation is more than making a decision. It is deliverance.

Scripture describes fallen humanity as being under “the power of darkness.” We are not merely confused people who need better information. We are sinners who need rescue.

This is why the gospel is such glorious news.

God does not merely offer advice to prisoners. He opens the prison. He does not simply encourage slaves to improve themselves. He breaks their chains. He does not merely tell those living in darkness to try harder to find the light. He translates them into the kingdom of His beloved Son.

Salvation is not only pardon from guilt through Christ’s blood; it is also deliverance from bondage through divine power.

We could never accomplish this ourselves.

No sinner can reason himself out of spiritual death. No religious ceremony can break Satan’s dominion. No act of human will can regenerate a dead heart.

God must act.

This truth destroys pride. If God rescued us, then we cannot boast that we were wiser than those who remain lost. We were captives who were liberated by grace.

But this doctrine also gives tremendous hope when we pray for seemingly hardened sinners.

Their chains may be strong, but Christ is stronger.

Never look at someone enslaved by sin and conclude that he is beyond hope. The same power that delivered you can deliver him.

The gospel does not merely invite sinners to become better.

It announces that Jesus Christ sets captives free.

Contemplation

Do I think of my salvation primarily as something I decided, or as a divine rescue God accomplished?

Puritan Quote

John Bunyan wrote:

“No child of God sins to that degree as to make himself incapable of forgiveness.”

Prayer

Lord, thank You for delivering me from the power of darkness. Keep me humble before Your grace and confident in Your power to rescue others. Amen.

Application

Pray specifically today for someone who appears deeply enslaved by sin, remembering that no bondage exceeds Christ’s power.
