We have been looking at the command of 1 Thessalonians 5:17: "Pray without ceasing." Today we will look at a motive for fulfilling this Scripture. Did you know that God wants to do His children good? Jeremiah 32:41 says: "Yea, I will rejoice over them to do them good...." God does not take delight in the angels, your tithe, your works or even the universe he created. No; He takes delight in His children and wants to do them good! Since God wants to do something good for you, this is a real motive to stay in close communication with Him throughout the day.
Adam Clarke explained this verse as follows: "Nothing can please God better than our coming to him to receive the good which, with his whole heart and his whole soul, he is ready to impart. How exceedingly condescending are these words of God!" Matthew Poole's Commentary said: "I will not only do them good, but I will take pleasure and delight in doing them good; and I will certainly bring them to this land, and constantly and freely do them good when they shall be there."
The thought is clear; God wants to do us good. This is plenty of reason to spend time with Him constantly throughout the day as the circumstances permit. It is not that you are doing it to get something; it is that you want to be close to someone who cares so much about you. This is not selfishness; this is good sense. Would you to prefer to spend all day with someone who dislikes you and seeks every opportunity to negatively impact your life or with someone who wants to do you good? Today, spend all the time you can with Him as He really wants to do you good.
