Houses Burned With Fire

THE HOUSES OF GREAT MEN SHALL BE BURNED WITH FIRE -- "And burned the house of the LORD, and the king's house; and all the houses of Jerusalem, and all the houses of the great men, burned he with fire" (Jeremiah 52:13). Of the Christian, Paul wrote in 2 Cor. 5:1-2 "For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven."

The time fast approaches when every earthly house, including those of the greatest of the great men on earth, shall all be dissolved. In his song, "This Old House" Stuart Hamblen wrote of the approaching dissolution of the earthly house of one who was "Getting Ready To Meet The Saints":

This old house is gettin' shaky;

This old house is gettin' old;

This old house has seen the rain;

This old house has seen the cold;

Oh his knees are gettin' chilly,

But he feels no fear or pain

'Cause he sees an angel peepin'

Through a broken window pane.

Ain't gonna need this house no longer,

Ain't gonna need this house no more,

Ain't got time to fix the shingles,

Ain't got time to fix the floor,

Ain't got time to oil the hinges

Nor to mend the window pain,

Ain't gonna need this house no longer

He's getting ready to meet the saints.

During one of his times of great trial on earth, the great apostle Paul wrote in 1 Cor. 4:11  "Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwellingplace." He has a certain dwellingplace now! -- "a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens." And, Paul's eternal house is the sort which the truly greatest of earth's great men (God's Saints) shall inherit and inhabit, world without end!
