What Is Chasing You? The Blessing No Man Can Curse
Scripture Reading:
“God said to Balaam, 'You shall not go with them; you shall not curse the people, for they are blessed.'"
— Numbers 22:12 (RSV)
Personal Reflection
There is a powerful truth that echoes from the pages of Numbers: when God blesses, no man can curse. The King of Moab was terrified of Israel’s blessing. He saw something that many often miss — that God’s hand was upon His people, and no earthly power could stop them. Wealth, promotion, and bribes could not change the fact that God had already spoken blessing over Israel.
Yet, woven into this blessing is a sobering warning: though no enemy can strip us of God’s favor, we ourselves can forfeit it through disobedience. The blessing rests on covenant faithfulness. When Israel compromised with the daughters of Moab and worshiped Baal, they stepped out from under God’s covering, and judgment swiftly followed (Numbers 25:1-9).
This challenges me personally. How often do I fear the schemes of men, the opinions of others, or the threats of the world? Yet, if I am walking in obedience to God’s Word, I have no need to fear any external opposition. No enemy, no curse, no circumstance can override God's decree over my life.
The only true danger lies not outside, but inside: in my heart’s temptation to compromise.
Contemplation
God’s blessing is secure — unless I choose to step away through sin.
No person can steal what God has blessed — but disobedience invites loss.
The foundation of blessing is simple: hear and obey His Word.
God’s blessing is not passive — it is active, it overtakes, it pursues.
What am I allowing to “chase me” today? The blessing? Or the consequences of disobedience?
Prayer
Father,
Thank You for the power of Your blessing. You are the God who protects, provides, and promotes Your people. No man can reverse what You have spoken, and no enemy can snatch away what You have decreed over my life.
But, Lord, I confess — the greatest danger lies in my own heart’s wanderings. Guard me from compromise. Teach me to walk faithfully in Your Word. Let my obedience not be half-hearted or occasional but full, joyful, and consistent.
I want to live under the canopy of Your blessing — not because I seek comfort, but because I desire to honor You. Let reverence for You govern my choices. May Your Word be my guide, Your Spirit my strength, and Your promises my confidence.
Let the blessing that overtakes find me walking in obedience today.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
Key Takeaway:
No one can curse what God has blessed — but disobedience can surrender what no enemy could steal.
