We are going to spend a few days examining what it means to walk in love. Ephesians 5:2 says: "And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour." The word "walk" is a verb in the present tense and imperative mood. This means that Paul is commanding continuous action. This is not a worship day only command. We are to walk in love 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. The word "walk" means as you go about. This is not a call to do something special, like a planned activity; it means as you go about your normal mundane sometimes boring life, walk in love.
The William Burkitt New Testament explains: "This implies the exercise of this grace, not barely to have it in the principle and habit, but to exercise and exert it in the act; and it implies the universal exercise of grace; whatever we do both to God and man, must be done in love, Let all your deeds be done with charity (love)."
Today, walk in love knowing that as you do, you are walking in obedience to the Word of God. God loves it when His children are obedient to His Word. Paul's command may at first seem too difficult and the temptation will be to quit. It will be too tough if you try to walk in love in your own power, but as you depend on the Holy Spirit to transform you and your walk, you will see the walk of love. Examine yourself and then pray for God's power to cause you to walk in love.
