We are looking at walking in love. Ephesians 5:2 says: "And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour." Walking in love requires us to have the eyes of Jesus. By the phrase the eyes of Jesus, I mean seeing things the way He sees them. Jesus' eyes were full of compassion and mercy. However, those eyes were not afraid to confront either. A look at John 2:15 describes Jesus clearing the temple: "And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables...." So we can see that there is not a one size (or approach) that fits all. Sometimes the eyes are full of compassion and sometimes the eyes are looking for a whip.
How can we know when to be compassionate and when to confront? The simple answer is that you must spend time alone with God to learn His voice and His guidance. My wife knows me so well that we could go to any restaurant and she could order for me. She knows what I am going to say before I say it. How did she acquire this knowledge? She learned it through spending so many years with me. The same will hold true for your walk with God. Spending time with Him and His Word will empower you to see things the way He sees them.
Today, the message is clear; you must spend time alone with God to learn to see things the way He sees them, i.e. through His eyes. This includes prayer, Bible reading and study. As you do so, know that your vision is being corrected from that of the world to that of the Holy Spirit.
