Living for Eternity
Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:7
"For we walk by faith, not by sight."
Personal Reflection
Walking by faith means living with eternity in view. The world lives for immediate gratification, visible success, and temporary pleasures. The Christian lives for the glory of God and the realities of eternity.
Faith sees beyond the present moment. It recognizes that earthly trials are temporary, but God's promises are eternal. The believer understands that obedience may not always produce immediate rewards, but it will always bring eternal blessings.
Many of God's greatest saints endured hardship because they were looking beyond this life. They understood that this world is not their home. They were pilgrims journeying toward a heavenly city whose builder and maker is God.
When eternity governs our perspective, earthly disappointments lose much of their power. We become steadfast because our hope rests not in the changing circumstances of life but in the unchanging promises of God.
Contemplation
Are your priorities shaped more by eternity or by the temporary concerns of this world?
Puritan Quote
Richard Baxter wrote:
"It is not heaven that is the principal object of faith, but Christ in heaven."
Prayer
Father, lift my eyes above the temporary things of this world. Help me live as a pilgrim whose hope is fixed upon Christ and eternity. Teach me to walk by faith until faith becomes sight. Amen.
Application
Evaluate one major goal in your life and ask: "How does this advance God's kingdom and prepare me for eternity?"
