Dead Hearts Need Divine Power

 Dead Hearts Need Divine Power

Scripture: Ephesians 2:1 (KJV)

"And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins."

Personal Reflection

Modern Christianity often portrays salvation as merely making a good decision. Scripture describes it very differently. It says sinners are spiritually dead. Dead people cannot awaken themselves, heal themselves, or choose life. They require resurrection.

Scripture emphasizes that Holy Spirit conviction begins when God Himself moves upon the sinner's heart. The Spirit exposes spiritual death before He reveals spiritual life. Until a person understands his hopeless condition, he will never treasure Christ as his only hope.

This truth humbles believers. We contributed nothing to our salvation except the sin from which we needed to be rescued. Every step—from conviction to repentance to faith—was initiated and sustained by God's grace.

It also changes how we pray for the lost. We no longer merely ask God to help people make better choices. We plead that He would perform the miracle of new birth. We ask Him to awaken dead hearts, soften hardened consciences, and reveal Christ through the power of His Spirit.

Every genuine conversion is a resurrection. The God who raised Lazarus from the tomb still raises dead sinners through the preaching of His Word.

Contemplation

Do I truly appreciate that my salvation required nothing less than the supernatural work of God?

Puritan Quote

Thomas Goodwin wrote:

"The Spirit must breathe upon the soul before it can live unto God."

Prayer

Father, thank You for giving me life when I was dead in sin. Help me never forget the miracle of Your saving grace and deepen my compassion for those who remain spiritually dead. Amen.

Application

Pray today for one unbeliever by name, asking God to perform the miracle of spiritual life in their heart.
