Sealed Until the Day of Redemption

Scripture: Ephesians 1:13–14 (KJV)

“After that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession.”

Personal Reflection

The Holy Spirit does more than bring us into salvation; He guarantees that God's saving purpose will be completed. Scripture describes Him as the seal upon believers and the earnest—the down payment—of our eternal inheritance.

This is tremendous comfort for the Christian facing the storms of life. Our final salvation does not depend upon our ability to hold tightly enough to God. It rests upon God's ability to keep us. Christ declares that His sheep shall never perish, and the Spirit seals those sheep until redemption is complete.

But this glorious doctrine must never be twisted into careless presumption. Biblical security does not mean, “I once prayed a prayer, so now I may live however I please.” Scripture teaches the perseverance of the saints: those truly regenerated will be preserved by God and therefore will continue in faith. Their perseverance does not earn salvation; it demonstrates God's preserving grace.

There will be falls, struggles, seasons of weakness, and painful chastening. Yet the Spirit does not abandon the true child of God. He convicts, disciplines, restores, strengthens, and continues the work He began.

This is why assurance produces holiness rather than lawlessness. Knowing that God has sealed us does not make us want to run from Him; it makes us love the One who refuses to let us go.

The Spirit who began His work within you will one day raise your body and bring you safely into glory.

Is my security resting upon the strength of my own grip on God, or upon the faithfulness of the God who has sealed me?

Prayer

Father, thank You for sealing me with Your Holy Spirit. Preserve me in faith, correct me when I wander, and keep me faithfully following Christ until I stand safely in Your presence. Amen.
