Your Body Is His Temple

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 6:19–20 (KJV)

“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you... and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price.”

Personal Reflection

One of the most staggering truths of the Christian faith is that the Holy Spirit permanently indwells every genuine believer. The eternal Spirit of God has taken up residence within those whom Christ has redeemed. The believer therefore does not belong to himself. His body has become a sanctuary of God.

This truth gives both extraordinary comfort and solemn responsibility. The Spirit indwells us to comfort, strengthen, guide, empower, equip, and produce holiness. We are never abandoned in the Christian struggle. The God who called us has come to dwell within us. Yet because our bodies are His temple, we dare not treat them as playgrounds for sin.

This also corrects the teaching that a genuine Christian must later receive the Holy Spirit through some “second blessing.” Scripture teaches that every true believer possesses the Spirit. The issue is not whether we have enough of Him, but whether He has increasing control over us.

His presence explains why a true Christian can never remain comfortably settled in sin. The believer may stumble. He may struggle intensely. But the indwelling Spirit produces conviction, awakens desires for holiness, and continually draws the child of God back toward Christ.

Think about the dignity this gives ordinary Christian living. Your speech matters. Your thoughts matter. What you watch matters. What you do with your body matters. You carry within you the presence of the Holy Spirit.

If I truly remembered that my body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, what attitudes, habits, or practices would need to change?

Prayer

Holy Spirit, make me conscious of Your holy presence. Purify my thoughts, words, habits, and desires. Let my body and life become instruments for the glory of Christ. Amen.

Application

Identify one habit that does not honor the Spirit’s indwelling presence and take a concrete step today to remove or change it.
