The Daily Cross
Scripture: Luke 9:23 (KJV)
“And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”
Reflection
Christ calls His followers to a life shaped by the cross. This command is not reserved for extraordinary believers but applies to all who would follow Him. Self-denial means surrendering the rule of our own desires and submitting to the will of God. Every day presents opportunities to crucify pride, impatience, and selfish ambition. The cross reminds us that the path to true life passes through surrender.
Puritan Insight
John Owen wrote:
“The vigour and comfort of our spiritual life depends on the mortification of the deeds of the flesh.”¹
Prayer
Lord, teach me to take up my cross daily. Strengthen me to deny sinful desires and to follow Christ faithfully, trusting that the path of obedience leads to life and joy.
