The Purifying Fire
Isa. 6:6-7
God does not leave a yearning soul under the woe of condemnation. When he confesses his sinfulness, God soon shows him that there is cleansing by His refining fire. God sent one of the singing seraphs with a live coal in his hand which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar. He laid it upon Isaiah's mouth, saying, "Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged."
Isaiah lived in advance of his day. Pentecost was yet to come in fulfillment of prophecy. Nevertheless, Isaiah's vision of the grace of God so inspired his faith that he reached up and touched the faith line. His iniquity was taken away and his sin purged.
This experience of total cleansing is the universal need of man. It is provided through the Blood that was shed on Calvary. It is effected by the coming of the Holy Spirit who is like fire. It was a special dispensation to Isaiah. It is for us all today.
Some may suppose that the fullness, of the sanctifying Spirit is given to those who have a distinctive calling and service to perform. But everyone from master to servant is defiled by inward sin and has need of cleansing, that he may fill his place in life to the glory of God. Then let him reach out to receive what God will give by the ministry of His Spirit-a heart cleansed from all sin and filled with love divine.
