Devotion: “As You Go: Living the Mission Daily”

Devotion: “As You Go: Living the Mission Daily”

Scripture Reading:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
— Matthew 28:19 (RSV)

Personal Reflection:

For many, Matthew 28:19 brings to mind distant lands, passionate missionaries, or formal evangelistic events. But today, we are invited to look at the everyday meaning of Jesus’ command to “Go.”

The Greek word poreuomai doesn’t simply mean “pack your bags and leave your country.” It means as you goas you travelas you live—you are to carry the mission with you. Whether you're on your way to work, walking the dog, shopping for groceries, or attending school—you are going. The question is not if you are going, but how you are going.

“Every Christian is either a missionary or an imposter.” — Charles Spurgeon

That may sound strong, but Spurgeon understood what Jesus taught: the Christian life is a sent life. Every believer is on mission, not just during outreach events, but in daily rhythms. Evangelism is not just an action—it is a way of living, an attitude of the heart, a disposition of love and truth that infuses your everyday walk.

Contemplation:

What would change if you viewed your daily schedule as a divine assignment?

  • That coworker you avoid?

  • That cashier having a bad day?

  • That family member who keeps pushing your buttons?

You are already “going”—the question is whether you are living on mission as you go. Jesus’ command is not reserved for those with seminary degrees or missionary visas. It’s for every disciple—everywhere, every day.

“Let your religion be less of a theory and more of a love affair.” — G.K. Chesterton

Are you seeking relationships, not just to get someone to agree with you, but to reflect Christ to them—to invite them into the journey of discipleship through your life, your love, your words, and your walk?

Prayer:

Lord Jesus,
Thank You for the privilege of being included in Your mission. I confess that I often think of outreach as something for others, or something I do occasionally, rather than who I am daily. Help me see that as I go—to work, to school, to the market—I am Your ambassador.

Give me eyes to see people as You do. Open my heart to interruptions. Help me to live on mission, not through pressure, but through love. Let my life proclaim Your gospel even when my lips are silent—and let my lips be ready to speak when the moment comes.

Lord, make me faithful as I go, so that others may come to know You.

In Your name,
Amen.

Today’s Challenge:

Take one place you plan to go today—work, store, gym, school—and intentionally pray before you go. Ask God to show you one person you can serve, speak to, or simply reflect Christ to. Don’t wait for an event—live the mission now.
