Devotion: Find Your Hope Again
Scripture: “The hopes of the godly result in happiness, but the expectations of the wicked come to nothing.” — Proverbs 10:28 (NLT)
Personal Reflection
Have you ever reached a point where you wanted to quit? Where you were so weighed down by disappointment, frustration, or pain that hope seemed like a stranger? I’ve been there. In those moments, it’s easy to believe that joy is for other people — not for you. But God has something different to say. His Word reminds us that “the hopes of the godly result in happiness.” If we are in Christ, then this promise is for us.
But what if we’ve misplaced our hope? Hope isn’t a vague feeling or empty wishing. In Hebrew thought, “hope” (בָּטַח batach) implies trusting, leaning fully into, or casting yourself upon something — or Someone. Our hope is not built on our circumstances, our emotions, or even our own strength. It is anchored in the unchanging faithfulness of Jesus Christ.
Sometimes we lose hope because we’ve stepped away from the Word of God — the very wellspring of our hope. If your Bible has been closed more than it’s been open, or if your prayers have gone silent, it’s time to return. Don’t wait for feelings to lead you. Let truth lead you. Speak it. Meditate on it. Live it.
Contemplation
What has stolen your hope?
Is your hope anchored in God’s promises or in temporary outcomes?
Do you need to return to God’s Word today to refresh your spirit?
Take a quiet moment and think back to a time when Scripture stirred your soul — when God's promises felt alive. That place is still there, waiting for you. Go back. There, you’ll find your hope again.
Prayer
Father, I confess that sometimes I let circumstances cloud my view of Your promises. I’ve lost sight of hope, and I need You to restore it in me. Thank You for the reminder that true hope, hope that leads to joy, comes from trusting in You alone. Help me return to Your Word with fresh hunger. Let it live in my heart, guide my steps, and renew my mind. Today, I choose to cast my cares upon You. Be my hope, my strength, and my joy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” — Romans 15:13 (ESV)
