Devotion: “Jesus Christ the Same – Yesterday, Today, and Forever”
Hebrews 13:8 – “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and for ever.” (KJV)
Scripture Focus:
Hebrews 13:8 is not a doctrinal theory; it is a present reality. It is the foundation of Christian confidence. This simple, powerful declaration calls us to live in radical trust in the unchanging Christ.
“Jesus Christ the same…” No verb. No condition. No expiration date. Just fact.
Personal Reflection:
A painting in a Russian museum portrays Jesus raising Lazarus. Below the image, the caption calls it a “fairy tale.” While we may recoil at that label, we must ask: Do our lives reflect a similar belief?
Have I relegated Jesus' miracle-working power to the pages of Scripture only?
Do I speak of His authority but never expect it in my own life?
Do I pray for healing, transformation, or salvation with hope—or with resignation?
If I truly believe Hebrews 13:8, then I must conclude:
The Jesus who raised Lazarus stillraises the dead.
The Jesus who cast out demons stillbreaks strongholds.
The Jesus who calmed storms stillspeaks peace into chaos.
The issue is not with Christ. It is with my faith.
Hebrew thought is action-oriented: You only believe what you live.
“The same Jesus” is not an idea to affirm but a person to obey, trust, and follow boldly.
Contemplation:
Ask yourself: What would change in my life if I truly lived as if Jesus had not changed?
Would I pray more boldly?
Would I witness more confidently?
Would I endure trials more patiently?
Would I resist fear more courageously?
Jesus hasn’t changed. But have I limited Him by my own unbelief?
As we begin this journey through Hebrews 13:8, let us shake off every false limitation we have placed on Christ. Let’s walk as the early believers walked—dependent not on religious formality, but on the power of the risen, reigning Jesus.
“Jesus Christ is the same—He was mighty, He is mighty, He will always be mighty. Now live like you believe it.”
Prayer:
Lord Jesus,
I praise You because You have not changed. You are not a fading figure of history or a legend to admire. You are my living Savior, my present help, my eternal King. Forgive me for doubting Your power by my lack of action. Forgive me for living as if You are distant or inactive.
Renew my faith, O Lord. Help me to believe with more than words—help me to live it. I want to see You move again like You did in Scripture, not for my sake, but for the glory of Your Name. Teach me to trust You with bold obedience. May my life be a testimony that You are indeed the same yesterday, today, and forever.
In Your unchanging Name,
Amen.
Today's Challenge:
Begin to act on what you say you believe. If Jesus is still the same, then no situation is beyond His reach. Take one bold step today in faith—whether in prayer, in giving, in witnessing, or in forgiving—and trust the unchanging Christ to be with you.I’m
