Devotion – Patience in the Furnace
Scripture:
“Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” — James 1:3–4
Personal Reflection:
Trials test me. They strip me of illusions of control and force me to wait. Yet this waiting is not wasted — it produces patience, endurance, and maturity. The furnace is not to consume me but to purify me.
Contemplation:
Am I rushing to escape trials, or am I allowing them to produce patience in me?
Quote (Murray):
“Patience is the fruit of affliction rightly borne under the hand of God.”
Prayer:
Lord, help me to endure under trial without resentment. Give me patience to let suffering do its refining work, making me more like Christ.
Challenge:
In one hardship today, instead of asking God to remove it immediately, ask Him to use it to grow patience in you.
