Leviticus 24: 15-16: "And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, Whosoever curseth his God shall bear his sin. And he that blasphemeth the name of the Lord, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the Lord, shall be put to death.” There is a connection between the holiness of God and His Name. In this passage, a man born of an Israelite woman and Egyptian father cursed the LORD and blasphemed His Name. The LORD told Moses to have the people stone him to death. This is how serious God is about how people treat His Holy Name. We don't hear much about that today. Today, many in the church act like God has softened some as time has evolved. I tell you He has not! This shows you how serious an offense it is to curse God. God holds His Name in such high regard that death was the appropriate penalty for cursing Him. Think about this word when you hear people dishonor God’s Name. Make a special effort to reverence and show respect for the Name of our LORD. While God may tolerate disrespect today, there is a time coming when He won't. Judgment is coming.
