Isaiah 6: 1-5: “In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory. And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke. Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.” Today, we look at Isaiah and his experience in the presence of the Sovereign Lord. When Isaiah sees the Lord, he cries out “Woe is me!” He says he is “undone.” Another translation says, he is ruined. When Isaiah is in the presence of the Lord, he immediately recognizes how unholy he is. This should be the response of anyone who is in the presence of the Lord. It is not a soft relaxing feeling like sitting on a cloud. You are confronted with the absolute perfection and holiness of our God. We should cry out like Isaiah, “I am undone.” How does this compare with those who claim to be in the presence of the Lord? It doesn’t! If we are in the presence of the Lord, we are on our faces. We are traumatized! The 21st Century church needs to begin to see the LORD as the Sovereign God and not as a soft sissified grandfather or emasculated male that only seeks to please mankind. Our God is not sitting on the sidelines. He is actively involved in everything that is taking place in His world.
