Come Clean, Come Clear
Scripture: Isaiah 55:6–7 (KJV)
"Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near."
Personal Reflection
Old-time evangelists often pleaded with sinners using the simple invitation: "Come clean. Come clear." It was a call to stop hiding behind excuses and honestly confess one's condition before God.
That invitation remains just as urgent today. God already knows every sin, every secret thought, every selfish motive, and every act of rebellion. Nothing is hidden from His sight. Yet instead of fleeing from Him, the gospel invites us to flee to Him.
Repentance is not attempting to clean ourselves before coming to Christ. It is coming to Christ because we know we cannot cleanse ourselves. We abandon every defense, every excuse, and every claim of self-righteousness. Like the tax collector in Luke 18, we cry, "God be merciful to me a sinner."
Christ has never rejected a truly repentant sinner. His invitation remains: "Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out" (John 6:37).
For believers, "coming clean" also means maintaining a life of continual confession. Though our justification is complete, our fellowship with God flourishes through humble repentance. The Christian life is marked by honesty before God, not by pretending to be sinless.
Contemplation
Is there anything I continue to hide from God instead of confessing openly before Him?
Puritan Quote
Richard Baxter wrote:
"Delay not to turn to God, for tomorrow is not yours."
Prayer
Merciful Father, teach me to come honestly before You. Remove every excuse and lead me into joyful repentance and renewed fellowship with Christ. Amen.
Application
Take time today to confess specific sins to the Lord and thank Him for His promise of forgiveness in 1 John 1:9.
