You Have Been Enlisted

Scripture: "Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ." — 2 Timothy 2:3 (KJV)

When the Lord Jesus Christ saves a sinner, He does more than forgive sin—He enlists that believer into His service. Salvation is not merely an invitation to enjoy the blessings of heaven; it is a call to follow Christ in faithful obedience. Every Christian is a soldier in the army of the King.

Many enter the Christian life expecting ease and comfort. They are surprised when trials arise, temptations intensify, and opposition increases. Yet these experiences should not surprise us. The New Testament consistently teaches that believers are engaged in spiritual warfare. The Christian who experiences conflict is not necessarily outside the will of God. In many cases, he is precisely where God intends him to be.

William Gurnall reminds us that no believer is exempt from this conflict. Young and old, mature and immature, pastors and laypeople alike all stand on the battlefield. The difference is not whether we fight, but whether we fight in the strength of Christ.

Our Captain has already secured the final victory through His death and resurrection. We do not fight to earn salvation, nor do we fight for uncertain success. We fight because we belong to the victorious King. Every act of obedience, every temptation resisted, every faithful witness given is another declaration that Jesus Christ is Lord.

The Christian soldier must never forget that his service is both a privilege and a responsibility. Christ calls us to endure hardship with courage, trusting that our labor is never in vain.

Personal Reflection

Do I see my Christian life as a comfortable journey or as faithful service under the command of King Jesus? How can I better serve Him today?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for calling me out of darkness into the kingdom of Your dear Son. Help me to endure hardship as a faithful soldier of Jesus Christ. Give me courage when I face temptation, strength when I grow weary, and faithfulness in every duty You place before me. May my life honor my Captain until the day I stand before Him in glory. In Jesus' name, Amen.
