Unbelief Rejects the Light

Unbelief Rejects the Light

Scripture: John 3:19 (KJV)

"Men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil."

Personal Reflection

Jesus explained the true reason people reject Him. It is not primarily because they lack evidence. It is because they love darkness more than light. Unbelief is ultimately moral before it is intellectual.

Sin blinds the heart. Fallen humanity does not merely misunderstand God; it actively resists Him. The light exposes sin, and sinners naturally flee from exposure.

This explains why arguments alone cannot save anyone. Apologetics has its place, but only the Holy Spirit can remove spiritual blindness. He alone can make Christ beautiful to the heart.

The believer should remember that he once loved darkness too. Salvation is entirely the work of God's grace. This realization keeps us humble and patient when sharing the gospel.

Christ continues to call sinners out of darkness into His marvelous light. Everyone who comes to Him finds forgiveness, cleansing, and eternal life.

The question is not whether the light shines. It shines perfectly. The question is whether we will come to the Light.

Contemplation

Is there any area of darkness that I am refusing to bring into Christ's light?

Puritan Quote

John Flavel wrote:

"The clearer the knowledge of Christ, the stronger the love to Christ."

Prayer

Lord Jesus, shine Your light into every corner of my heart. Expose my sin, deepen my repentance, and help me walk in the light of Your truth. Amen.

Application

Confess any known sin to the Lord today and thank Him that "the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin" (1 John 1:7).
