God Reigns Above All

Scripture: Isaiah 46:9–10 (KJV)

"For I am God, and there is none else... My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure."

Personal Reflection

After considering the complete depravity of man, Scripture immediately turns our eyes to the glorious sovereignty of God. This progression is essential. If man is spiritually dead and unable to save himself, then salvation must belong entirely to the Lord. We should remember that God's sovereignty is not merely one attribute among many—it is the foundation upon which every other truth rests. God is infinitely exalted above every creature, absolutely independent, and never subject to outside influence. He does exactly as He pleases because His wisdom is perfect and His purposes are holy. 

This truth should calm every anxious heart. We live in a world of elections, wars, economic uncertainty, disease, and moral confusion, yet none of these events threaten God's throne. Kings rise and fall, nations flourish and collapse, but the Lord reigns forever. Nothing surprises Him, nothing frustrates Him, and nothing alters His eternal decree.

For the believer, the sovereignty of God is not a frightening doctrine but a comforting one. If God were less than sovereign, His promises could fail. But because He rules over every detail, every promise He has made will certainly come to pass. The God who governs galaxies also governs the lives of His children.

In every storm, remind yourself that your circumstances are never greater than your Sovereign. The One who saved your soul continues to rule your life with perfect wisdom and unfailing love.

Do I truly believe God is ruling over every detail of my life, even those I do not understand?

Prayer

Almighty God, help me rest in Your absolute sovereignty. Teach me to trust that Your counsel shall stand and that Your purposes for my life are perfect. Amen.

Application

Whenever anxiety arises today, repeat Isaiah 46:10 and remind yourself that God's throne has never been threatened.
