The Wrath That Remains
Scripture: John 3:36 (KJV)
"He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him."
Personal Reflection
One of the most sobering truths in all of Scripture is that God's wrath presently rests upon every unbeliever. Jesus did not merely warn of future judgment; He declared that the wrath of God already abides upon those who reject His Son.
This truth is unpopular in our generation because many prefer a God of love without justice. Yet God's love is meaningful precisely because His justice is real. The cross demonstrates both perfectly. There God's holy wrath against sin fell upon Christ so that believing sinners might be forgiven.
The believer has no reason for pride. We deserved the same judgment. Only God's mercy delivered us from His righteous wrath.
Remembering this should produce compassion rather than arrogance. Every unbeliever we meet remains under condemnation apart from Christ. This reality should stir us to pray fervently, witness faithfully, and proclaim the gospel without compromise.
There is urgency in evangelism because eternity is real.
Contemplation
Do I truly believe that people without Christ remain under God's wrath?
Puritan Quote
Jonathan Edwards wrote:
"The only reason why they are not fallen already is only that God's appointed time is not come."
Prayer
Father, give me compassion for those who do not know Christ and boldness to proclaim the gospel faithfully. Amen.
Application
Pray specifically today for one unbelieving friend or family member.
