Faith Triumphs Over Unbelief

Faith Triumphs Over Unbelief

Scripture: Mark 9:24 (KJV)

"Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief."

Personal Reflection

One of the most encouraging prayers recorded in Scripture comes from a desperate father who recognized both his faith and his remaining unbelief. His cry reminds every believer that faith often exists alongside weakness. Saving faith is not perfect faith; it is genuine faith resting in a perfect Savior.

Throughout the Christian life, Satan seeks to stir doubts, fears, and discouragement. Circumstances may tempt us to question God's goodness, His timing, or His promises. Yet living faith continues returning to Christ.

Notice that the father did not attempt to strengthen himself before coming to Jesus. He brought his weakness directly to the Savior. That is always the believer's refuge.

Christ is not only the author of our faith but also its finisher (Hebrews 12:2). The same Savior who granted saving faith continues sustaining it throughout our pilgrimage. Our assurance ultimately rests not in the strength of our faith but in the strength of our Redeemer.

One day faith will become sight. Every remaining doubt will disappear forever. Until then, believers continue praying, "Lord, I believe; help Thou mine unbelief," trusting that He who began a good work will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.

Contemplation

Do I bring my doubts honestly to Christ, trusting Him to strengthen my faith?

Puritan Quote

Thomas Watson wrote:

"Faith deals with God upon His Word and leaves the fulfillment of it to His wisdom."

Prayer

Gracious Lord, strengthen my faith each day. Help me cling to Christ in every trial until faith gives way to everlasting sight. Amen.

Application

Meditate on Hebrews 12:1–3 and ask the Lord to help you keep your eyes fixed upon Jesus, the Author and Finisher of your faith.
