Faith Trusts; Unbelief Resists

Scripture: Genesis 15:6 (KJV)

"And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness."

Personal Reflection

Abraham's life stands in sharp contrast to the life of unbelief. Scripture simply says, "He believed in the LORD." That belief was not mere agreement with facts. Abraham entrusted himself completely to God's promises. He rested upon the character of the God who cannot lie.

Unbelief does the opposite. It questions God's goodness, doubts His wisdom, and resists His authority. Ever since the Garden of Eden, Satan has tempted mankind with the same question: "Yea, hath God said?" Every temptation toward unbelief begins by undermining confidence in God's Word.

Faith, however, accepts God's testimony even when circumstances appear impossible. Abraham believed God's promise though he and Sarah were beyond childbearing years. Noah believed God's warning before rain had ever fallen. Moses believed God's promises more than Egypt's treasures.

The Christian life continues in the same way. We are called to trust God's promises in suffering, His wisdom in uncertainty, His providence in disappointment, and His love in every trial.

Saving faith always has an object—the Lord Jesus Christ. It does not trust feelings, experiences, or human wisdom. It clings to Christ alone.

When storms arise, unbelief asks, "Has God forgotten me?" Faith replies, "He cannot deny Himself."

When difficulties arise, do I naturally trust God's promises or my own understanding?

Lord, increase my confidence in Your promises. Help me believe You when my circumstances tempt me to doubt. Amen.
