The “Head-route” Versus the “Heart-route”

Today, we again read the words of L.S. Boardman from his book, “Scriptural Death-Route Holiness.”

“It is possible for one to merely go the ‘head-route’ instead of the ‘heart-route,’ and never break through into the reality of the experience of perfect love (entire sanctification). Millions have fallen into this snare of Satan and settled for a ‘head knowledge’ of the doctrine of holiness without ever receiving the experience in their hearts.”

“A young man of our acquaintance years ago contracted leukemia. As soon as he learned the diagnosis, he went to a local library and learned all he could about his disease. He studied its symptoms ar different stages of development. However, his acquired knowledge of the disease did not save his life. Nor will the knowledge of ‘death-route’ holiness in one’s head solve the carnality problem in his own heart or make him eligible for heaven. Through an act of the will, self must be confessed out, despised, and utterly renounced before the Holy Spirit can crucify the ‘Old Man’ (Romans 6:6) of carnal self, purify one’s heart, and take over the rulership of one’s life.”

Sadly, so many churches, even those that claim a holiness heritage, have neglected to teach their people about the blessing of entire sanctification, how to receive it, and how to keep it. Churches fail to have revival services with evangelists that preach old fashioned death route holiness. The evangelist gives lip service to the doctrine but never presses the people to follow through. Altar work is either shallow or non-existent. How can the blind lead the blind?

In the end, this leads to numerous problems in the church, because when carnality reigns, the church will be ineffective in its mission. What is that mission? That mission is to preach full salvation to the people, to get them saved and entirely sanctified. That’s why we need the “death-route” not the “head-route.”
