Colossians 3: 5: "Put to death therefore what is earthly in you." Do you seek to mortify (kill) sin in you? Do you think you are perfect? If you do, know that you aren't. It should be a daily exercise to strike the enemy of sin to kill it. When sin leaves you alone, you may let sin alone. Sin is active when it seems to be the most quiet, and its waters are often deep when they seem calm. Sin will be striving, acting, rebelling against you if it is not continually mortified. If not mortified, sin will blind the soul to see it is drifting from God. The growth of sin has no boundaries. It is our duty to be "bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God" (2 Corinthians 7:1), and every day to be growing in grace (1 Peter 2: 2), and seeking to be renewed in the inner nature day by day (2 Corinthians 4: 16). This is part of the sanctification process. Sanctification begins at the new birth, progresses during your life and will end in your glorification when you see the Lord Jesus Christ face to face. You mortify sin by giving it no place in your life, opposing temptation as it presents itself to you and by daily surrender (consecration) to the Lord Jesus Christ. If He is not your Lord, you are not His. Do this daily.
