We have been focusing on trusting in God as opposed to trusting in man. Trusting in man will result in your being like a "scrawny shrub" but trusting in God will bring Him to you to overcome the trials of life. Today we continue looking at the benefits of trusting in the Lord. Jeremiah 17:8 says: "For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit." This verse is promising that we that trust in the Lord shall be able to stand strong when times of trouble come. We will still be able to bear fruit for the Father even when others who trust in man begin to wither. This is a great promise in the uncertain economic times of today.
Matthew Poole's Commentary describes this promise as: "The sum is, he shall be prosperous and successful in his counsels and undertakings; like a tree planted by the side of a river, which is not affected with drought, but in a time when the leaves of trees standing in dry mountainous places parch and wither, its leaves hold their greenness, and its colour is not altered by drought, neither doth it cease from yielding fruit, but bringeth forth much fruit when other trees are wholly unfruitful." The Word is clear; trust in the Lord and regardless of what the world is feeling, you will be prosperous and successful!
Today, be thankful for this promise. Get to a quiet place and profess your trust completely in Him. He will see you through if you do so. Isn't it wonderful to have such a sure promise from the Creator of the Universe? We will not and cannot fail when our trust is in Him!
