I want to go back today and consider those that place their trust in man. Jeremiah 17:6 describes the curse of those that trust in man as opposed to God: "For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited." This describes someone who has reached a place of despair and loneliness. Have you ever had someone close to you hurt you? I don't think that there is a greater pain this side of the grave than when someone close to you hurts you. This can occur when we place trust in someone instead of God. Yes; to a certain degree we do trust those close to us. However, we must never forget that our ultimate trust is in God.
I would like to pass on an approach to deal with hurt when someone close to you hurts you. When someone says something or does something that hurts your heart ask yourself these questions:
1. God, what are you trying to reveal to me about myself in how I feel about this hurt?
2. Why does what this one has done to me hurt me so deeply?
3. How does the hurt I feel compare with the hurt You received on the cross for my sins?
4. How would you treat the one who has hurt me?
5. Am I willing to be like Jesus?
These questions will serve to place your trust back on God and off man. We want to make sure that we walk continually with our trust on God and not on man. Of course the difficulty is that man is all around us physically so it is easy to place our emphasis on what we can see. However, the unseen is more real than the seen and that is where we are to focus. Today walk with a conscious attempt to focus on God; place your complete trust in Him. And if someone hurts you, go through this list of five questions and you will discover something about yourself and your walk with God.
