It is so easy to deceive ourselves. We want to be judged by our motives while we judge others by their actions. Why is this so? Why do we create a dual system of judgment? Jeremiah 17:9 says: "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" Without the influence and power of the Holy Spirit, your heart is deceitful and wicked. This is why we are not to trust in man. We are to trust in God that gives us a new heart when we follow Jesus Christ as a true disciple.
John Wesley said of this verse: "There is nothing so false and deceitful as the heart of man; deceitful in its apprehensions of things, in the hopes and promises which it nourishes, in the assurances that it gives us; unsearchable by others, deceitful with reference to ourselves, and abominably wicked, so that neither can a man know his own heart, nor can any other know that of his neighbour's." If you are honest with yourself, ask yourself about your heart. Is it deceitful and wicked or is it pure and holy? Are there secrets that you harbor in your heart that you desire no one to learn? If so, there is a cleansing available through the blood of Jesus Christ to purify your heart.
God wants your heart to be pure as a testimony to His power to cleanse and transform. Today, examine your heart and if you find any wickedness there, go to Calvary and seek forgiveness and cleansing. The Word tell us that He will turn none away that come to Him. John 6:37 says: "All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out." What a comfort! What a promise! What a loving Savior!
