Matthew 17: 20: "If ye have faith as a grain of a mustard seed, ye shall shall say to this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you." I have seen this verse misused over the years. If you believe that Jesus was giving you some type of special power to do the impossible,e.g., move a mountain, you have been deceived. However, when understood in context, this is a beautiful promise for His people. True faith, by Christ’s definition, always involves surrender to the will of God. What He was teaching here is nothing like positive-thinking psychology. He was saying that both the source and the object of all genuine faith—even the weak, mustard-seed variety—is God. And “with God nothing will be impossible” (Luke 1:37). Also, this verse must be read in conjunction with 1 John 5: 14, what we ask for must be "according to His will." When we embrace a complete surrender to His will, and see the source of our faith as in Him, our mustard seed faith when praying in connection with His will, will bring the impossible into reality.
