Job 42: 2: "I know that You can do anything. And that no purpose of Yours can be withheld from You." This verse is part of Job's confession and repentance that finally took place. He still did not know why he suffered so profoundly, but he was done complaining, questioning, and challenging God’s wisdom and justice. He was reduced to such utter humility, crushed beneath the weight of God’s greatness, that all he could do was repent for his insolence. Without answers to all of his questions, Job quietly bowed in humble submission before his Creator and admitted that God was sovereign. I have a saying, "It is good to learn from your mistakes, but it is easier to learn from other people's mistakes. It is less painful." We have the resource of the completed Canon of Scripture. From Genesis to Revelation, it is clear to me that God is Sovereign over His creation. God's purposes will not be stopped. Yes, it may look like at times His Plan is hindered, but it isn't. It will occur exactly in His timing. That is a comfort to me. Charles Spurgeon said, "God's Sovereignty is the pillow that every believer rests his head on at night." This has been my comfort for many years.
