We continue looking at the blood redemption by the Lord Jesus Christ. To "redeem" something is to free a slave by paying a ransom. It is actually a business term. Titus 2: 14 reads: "Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works." This verse speaks of two acts of grace. To "redeem" is to buy back and bring the lost sinner into a state of salvation. However, God will not leave you as He finds you. There is the theological concept of sanctification. Sanctification is how God changes your life to conform to His. The verse uses the word "purify" which means to make clean, cleanse and purify. Paul’s first point focuses on the individual: Christ paid the price necessary to free people from their sins. Paul’s second point focuses on the church: Christ purifies individuals from their sins so that together they might constitute a people special to Him, a holy people. Christ loves us enough to save us and purify us! That is shouting ground!
