John 6: 44: "No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day." I have written before that the word translated "draw" in the Greek is "helkyo" and it means to force or compel. Jesus teaches that no one can respond positively to His invitation apart from the Father’s work of compelling the individual to come to Him. The heart is naturally corrupt and deceitful and will not accept God’s invitation, unless a special work of God’s grace takes place in the heart. That act of grace is a gift from God and applied to the heart by the Holy Spirit. We don't need to reconcile all the theological distinctions to be born again. We just need to repent and have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ to save us. Here is one thing the verse makes abundantly clear, no one comes to God without the Holy Spirit's bringing the sinner to the Lord Jesus. He compels and you come. That is crystal clear.
