Contentment in Suffering
Scripture:
“Our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.” — 2 Corinthians 4:17
Personal Reflection:
Burroughs taught that the Christian’s suffering is never meaningless: “God’s people find honey in every bitter providence.” Trials teach contentment by loosening my grip on the world and deepening my love for heaven. I can endure pain when I see its purpose — to make me more like Christ.
Contemplation:
Do I view trials as punishment or as preparation for glory?
Prayer:
Father, help me trust that every hardship is shaping me for eternity. Let my sorrow bear the fruit of peace.
Challenge:
Reach out today to someone suffering. Speak words of comfort that remind them of God’s purpose in pain.
