The Folly of Despair

The Folly of Despair

Scripture:
“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God.” — Psalm 42:11

Personal Reflection:
Sibbes said, “There is more mercy in Christ than sin in us.” Despair lies about God—it tells me my sin is greater than His grace. When I fall, I must not run from Him but to Him, for He came to lift the despairing.

Contemplation:
Do I believe Christ’s mercy can reach the depths of my despair?

Prayer:
Lord, lift my downcast soul. Remind me that Your mercy is deeper than all my sin.

Challenge:
When you feel discouraged today, repeat Sibbes’ words: “There is more mercy in Christ than sin in me.”
