We will continue looking at the error of the "Hearing God's Voice" movement (HGV). No religious delusion has brought more confusion and led people into more error than the belief that God routinely speaks to people outside of Scripture. Think Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, and Christian Scientists for example. The HGV movement is a type of mysticism that has more in common with witchcraft than any Biblical principle of discernment. Acts 9: 3-5 reads: "Now as he went on his way, he approached Damascus, and suddenly a light from heaven shone around him. And falling to the ground, he heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” And he said, “Who are you, Lord?” And he said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting." Did Paul need to attend a conference to know how to hear God's voice? Do you think Paul had any confusion or doubt that he was talking to the Lord? Today, God speaks to us through His Word. There is no need to go outside the Word, and in fact we have been warned not to. 1 Corinthians 4: 6 states: "I have applied all these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, brothers, that you may learn by us not to go beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up in favor of one against another." God will speak to us, and when He does, you will know it. More to follow.
