Today, we continue to at another erroneous doctrine which states that God is supplementing His Perfect Word with personal revelations to individuals. These people do not believe that God's Word is sufficient on its own. Consider the following groups that the leader had a new personal word from the Lord supplementing the Bible: Mormons, Muslims, Jehovah's Witnesses, Christian Scientists, and the Jim Jones cult. Things never work out well when someone says, "God spoke to me." 1 Corinthians 4: 6 reads: "And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another." One translation says, "do not go beyond what is written." This is sound advice, people think every random thought or impression that pops into their head is God. It isn't. Focus on the Word of God, especially the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ. I said focus and not to neglect the rest of Scripture. As a whole, the Word of God will guide you through every circumstance in this life.
