1-2-2023 Devotion: Gospel

Let us start the New Year right. We will spend some time early in the year exposing heresies in the church. First, let us focus on what the Gospel message is.  It can be summarized in 1 Corinthians 15: 1-4: "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures...."  Paul says that he declares the gospel to them. What is the gospel? “Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.” That is the gospel. Those are the facts. My friend, there is no gospel apart from those three facts. That is what the gospel is. The Lord Jesus Christ died for you and for me. He was buried and He rose again. That is gospel—it’s good news.  The gospel does not tell us something that we must do. The gospel tells us what the Lord Jesus Christ has already done for us. He died for our sins according to the Scriptures, He was buried, He rose again the third day. His blood redemption is the substitute for the believer. Friend, do you have a blood substitute? If not, Christ will save you if you come to Him. Start the year right, focus on the Gospel.
