Devotion – The Weight of Sin
Scripture:
“For the wages of sin is death.” — Romans 6:23
Personal Reflection:
Sin is not a mistake—it is rebellion. Edwards saw sin as a downward pull toward ruin, restrained only by God’s hand. Yet Jesus stepped beneath that crushing weight for me. Grace is not sentimental—it is blood-bought.
Contemplation:
Do I grasp the heaviness of my sin, or excuse it as weakness?
Edwards Quote:
“Your wickedness makes you as it were heavy as lead, and to tend downwards with great weight and pressure towards hell.” — Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, You bore the full gravity of my guilt. Let the memory of the cross keep me from making light of sin.
Challenge:
Confess one sin honestly to God today. Name it, grieve it, and thank Him for covering it.
