The Battle of Doubt and Assurance

The Battle of Doubt and Assurance

Scripture:
“That ye may know that ye have eternal life.” — 1 John 5:13

Personal Reflection:
For years, Bunyan feared he was not truly saved. He mistook weak faith for no faith at all. I too often look within and find only weakness. Yet John writes that God wants us to know — not guess, not hope, but know we have eternal life. My assurance does not depend on the strength of my feelings but the strength of my Savior. Christ holds me even when I feel I can’t hold Him.

Contemplation:
Am I searching for assurance in my emotions, or am I grounding it in God’s unchanging Word?

Quote (Bunyan):
“My safety is not in my righteousness, but in Christ’s.”

Prayer:
Lord, when doubts assail me, anchor me in Your promises. Let my assurance rest in the finished work of Christ, not in my shifting emotions.

Challenge:
Memorize 1 John 5:13. Each time doubts come, recite it as your shield.
